NEW YORK, August 1, 2022 – Presented by Kaiser Permanente, WNBA FIT Month begins today, August 1, with a special focus on engaging players, partners and community organizations to highlight the importance of healthy living for the mind, body and spirit.
Throughout August, the WNBA promotes the physical and mental well-being of fans of all ages with grassroots programming and events, broadcast and digital advertising, in-arena and online programming. The WNBA will also work with experts to address health inequalities with a focus on communities of color.
Additionally, August 17-30, the league and its teams will help educate fans and support those affected by breast cancer with WNBA Breast Health Awareness. The league’s longest-running platform, WNBA Breast Health Awareness (BHA), empowers women to proactively manage the risks of breast and ovarian cancer. It also sheds light on the differences in breast cancer incidence, care and outcomes.
As part of the BHA effort, the WNBA and its teams will coordinate events and activities in the arena while promoting initiatives from community partners and organizations dedicated to cancer education and prevention, including the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, the American Cancer Society and Bright pink.
During WNBA FIT Month, the WNBA and Kaiser Permanente will host four food pop-ups in partnership with Goodr, a certified B-Corp that uses technology and logistics to combat food waste and insecurity. The pop-ups, which aim to provide healthy eating options to families affected by food insecurity and HBCU students returning to campus, will take place Aug. 14 in Los Angeles, Aug. 20 in Seattle, Aug. 25 in Atlanta and August 30 in Washington, DC Each event will feed up to 250 families.
There will be five special nationally televised games during WNBA FIT Month that will include in-arena activations beginning Thursday, August 4 when reigning WNBA MVP Jonquel Jones of Kia and the Connecticut Sun will host the WNBA -All-Stars 2022 Skylar Diggins-Smith and are the Phoenix Mercury on ESPN2 (4pm ET).
ABC will present two doubleheaders during WNBA FIT Month. On Sunday, August 7, The Sun will visit reigning WNBA Finals MVP Kahleah Copper and the Chicago Sky (1 p.m. ET), followed by Kia WNBA MVP 2020 A’ja Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces, who face the two-time WNBA Finals MVP joins Breanna Stewart and host Seattle Storm (3 p.m. ET).
ABC’s second doubleheader will take place on the final day of the 2022 regular season, Sunday, August 14, and will be highlighted by the final games of the regular season for WNBA legends Sylvia Fowles and Sue Bird. In the first game, Fowles will lead the Minnesota Lynx against the Sun in Connecticut (1 p.m. ET). In the second game, Bird and the Storm visit the Aces (3 p.m. ET).
