Today’s grand opening of ChenMed’s 100th center is the first of eight specialty medical centers for seniors that are rapidly opening in North Carolina

CHARLOTTE, NC, August 3, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — ChenMed, a leading primary care practice specializing in the elderly, today celebrated the grand opening of its 100th center transforming care for populations most in need. The newest Dedicated Senior Medical Center is the first of two dedicated to aging Charlotte residents, and the first of eight openings quickly through North Carolina Providing affordable VIP care that brings better health to approximately 20,000 Medicare-eligible seniors statewide.

“Our commitment to underserved communities has never been stronger,” he said Christopher Chen, MD ChenMed CEO. “We will soon be operating more than 125 primary care centers in 15 states — all in underserved neighborhoods that are frankly healthcare deserts of vital urban regeneration.”

ChenMed centers are commonly located in underserved neighborhoods where lack of access to quality primary care and other social determinants of health has negatively impacted longevity for many years. These barriers have reduced average life expectancy by up to 20 years compared to older adults living in nearby, more affluent ZIP codes. So, the innovative medical practice is working to address what Rev. Martin Luther King Jr proclaimed more than 50 years ago: “Of all forms of inequality, the injustice in health is the most shocking and inhumane.”

Today’s grand opening of Charlotte’s First Specialty Senior Medical Center (2806 West Sugar Creek Road, Charlotte, NC 28262; 704-954-8832) was announced by participants including state and local officials; faith leaders; ChenMed Founder James Chen, MD, PhD; and Grammy winners Anthony Hamiltonwho performed three of his hits live.

“Dedicated Senior (Medical Center) is about bringing out the best in you, to bring out the best in you,” the singer noted Anthony HamiltonFor whom Charlotte is his hometown.

In addition, dedicated centers offer services that help break down barriers to healthy living, from transportation assistance to on-site medication and support with social services.

“Our doctors and nursing teams are doing everything we can to help at-risk seniors stay healthy and happy,” he explained Latoya FultonDO, medical director for Dedicated’s first Charlotte Center. “We offer affordable VIP care where patients have their GP’s mobile number and can see their doctor the same day either via telemedicine or a secure in-person appointment.”

North Carolina recently awarded $1.2 million in grants from the North Carolina Department of Commerce in partnership with the cities of Burlington, Fayetteville, Greensboroand peak to help ChenMed accelerate the opening of Dedicated Senior Medical Centers in underserved neighborhoods and it is likely that Dedicated will continue to expand to meet the needs of at-risk seniors across the state; Plus, across America.
