Mangaluru July 31: The first edition of the Niveus Mangalore Marathon 2022 was launched here at Decathlon on Sunday 31st July under the auspices of the Mangalore Runners Club (MRC).
Mangaluru City Corporation Commissioner Akshy Sridhar said: “The Mangalore Runners Club has excelled at a rapid pace by doubling its membership. Running is one of the easiest sports. Sport brings out the best in people Home and running. Running has benefits in all aspects of life. Marathon is ideal in Mangaluru as it is a city with multiple students and professionals.”
Meanwhile, the dignitaries unveiled the logo and website of the Niveus Mangalore Marathon 2022. Akshy Sridhar, Commissioner of Mangaluru City Corporation and Kumar Mishra, Managing Director of MESCOM, Prashanth, also registered for the 2022 Mangalore Marathon.
Mangalore Runners Club President Ajith Aiyappan welcomed the gathering, Secretary Amar Kamath proposed an acknowledgment and Amitha D’Souza chaired the event.
Niveus Mangalore CEO Prashanth Kumar Mishra Suyog Shetty, Niveus Mangalore Marathon Race Manager Abhilash Dominic and Decathlon Store Manager Jithesh Rai were also present.
The Niveus Mangalore Marathon 2022 will be held at Mangala Stadium on November 6th this year. It aims to create a long-term, community-focused running event that encourages athletes of all skill levels to run, live healthy lives and improve their personal fitness. Niveus Solutions Pvt Ltd. is the title sponsor of the event, while Decathlon is co-sponsor.
The running route includes the scenic Tannirbhavi beach road stretching beyond the breathtaking horizon, a shady path and city highways. The event consists of four categories – half marathon (21.1km), 10km, 5km and 2km Gammath Run/Walk, designed to suit runners of all ability levels, from beginners to experienced athletes. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female runners in three age categories.
Running can improve life and is considered to be the cheapest sport there is. All you need is a pair of shoes and a road or trail to get started. The Mangalore Runners Club will host group runs every Sunday morning leading up to the event and provide instruction for the beginners.
About the Mangalore Runners Club
Mangalore Runners Club is a diverse group of runners of all ages and abilities from different walks of life in Mangalore. It was founded by a group of six people with a shared passion for running. The aim of the group is to bring together runners from all over the city who want to lead a fit and healthy lifestyle together. In just one year this club has grown to over 150 members. The club’s runners have competed in several well-known marathons, including Tata Mumbai Marathon, Ooty Ultra Marathon, Bengaluru Marathon and Dandeli Ultra Marathon. An MRC member has run 100 half marathons in a row. MRC has participated in the Hundred Days of Running Challenge for several years. In addition, the team has also helped organize Mangaluru’s first marathon, The Big Balipu, in 2016, the Big Balipu Virtual Marathon in 2020 and the TCS 10k Virtual Run in Mangaluru. Every Sunday the group organizes a run, coaches new runners, creates monthly training plans and organizes and participates in running events around the country.
