Michael Mosley: Tame ‘Fast-Growing’ Belly Fat With ‘Surprise Factors’ – Expert Advice

Losing belly fat is a common weight loss goal for millions of people around the world as it can creep up on anyone. Not only can it be uncomfortable, but belly fat is particularly harmful as it increases the likelihood of other health risks like type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

But dr Michael Mosley has some good news – he’s shared his “amazing” time-saving tips on how to reduce “stubborn” visceral fat around your stomach.

As belly fat is often at the heart of a person’s weight loss goals, he told Express.co.uk: ‘You have to eat smart, eat smart fast and train smart.

“To lose belly fat you have to understand belly fat and to understand belly fat you have to understand the basics of how insulin works.”

He further explained that after a meal, the body makes insulin to keep blood sugar stable.

“Insulin opens up glucose ports on your cell walls to let sugar through — to be burned in muscle and stored in fat,” said Dr. Mosley.

“In your fat, insulin also dampens the release of fatty acids — a source of energy — into your system. However, as we age, the cell wall’s insulin receptors become less sensitive.

“As a result, even after a meal, our blood is full of glucose and fatty acids. This is a toxic concoction that leads to a number of negative consequences, including rapidly growing belly fat.”

dr Mosley recommends “a three-pronged attack on belly fat” to make a “serious impact.”

He proposes:

Limit your intake of sugar and processed carbohydrates

The diet guru revealed that a “surprising” number of diet snacks and drinks are actually high in sugar despite being low in fat.

And when people reduce or restrict carbohydrates in their diet, they suppress their appetite and lose weight.

He explained, “Also, replace processed carbohydrates like white bread, chips and pasta with slow-release energy sources like brown rice or quinoa.

“Two things will surprise you: the amount of sugar you’ve unknowingly been consuming and the speed at which your belly fat is starting to tame.”

Do more exercises

Regular exercise is good for a number of reasons, especially when it comes to weight loss.

A calorie deficit is a necessity for shifting stubborn belly fat, and the nutritionist cited more active activity as a “key factor” alongside a healthy diet.

“Exercise is key for a number of reasons. It’s among the best things you can do to live a long and healthy life,” he said.

“While exercise alone won’t help you shed that stubborn fat around your midsection, it can be crucial to reducing your risk of putting on fat again, as well as lowering blood sugar levels and improving insulin sensitivity.

“Research has shown the extraordinary effects that ultra-short bursts of HIIT (high-intensity interval training) can have. And all of this in just a few minutes.”

With the right lifestyle changes, Dr. Mosley showed that it is possible to lose weight easily.

“It’s easy to lose it,” he said.

“More and more people are discovering that with the right lifestyle changes, they can burn up.

“And the most amazing thing? It’s not as hard as you think.”
