How to Live Longer: Strawberries have been linked to a reduced risk of diabetes

The scientific paper, published in Foods Journal, evaluated the nutritional composition and health benefits of red fruits, with a focus on strawberries and raspberries. The nutritionist Dr. Emma Derbyshire said: “It’s refreshing to read a new scientific publication that focuses solely on red fruit. These are interesting insights that complement the nutrition section and show how to make some simple daily trades such as: B. Type 2 Diabetes Prevention – Diet

Experts from the Harvard TH Chain School of Public Health point out that a healthy diet is one of three pillars when it comes to minimizing the risk of type 2 diabetes.

The other two are: control your weight and exercise for at least 150 minutes every week.

“Being overweight increases the likelihood of developing type 2 diabetes by a factor of seven,” the experts warn.

“If you’re obese, you’re 20 to 40 times more likely to develop diabetes than someone at a healthy weight.”

Inactivity also promotes high blood sugar, the necessary marker for type 2 diabetes.

“If you exercise your muscles more often and get them to work harder, their ability to use insulin and absorb glucose improves,” the experts explained.

In addition to eating red fruits like strawberries and raspberries, four dietary changes “can have a major impact on the risk of type 2 diabetes.”

This includes choosing whole grains, like whole wheat bread and pasta, instead of refined grains.

Another diet tip is to “skip sugary drinks” and opt for water, coffee, or tea instead.

And it’s also helpful to choose “healthy fats” like those found in avocados, rather than choosing saturated fats found in confectionery.

“Limit red meat and avoid processed meat,” the experts added, replacing them with: nuts, beans, poultry or fish.

Cancer prevention – nutrition

Leading charity Cancer Research UK confirms: “Eating a healthy and balanced diet can reduce the risk of cancer.”

To reduce your risk of cancer, the charity recommends eating high-fiber foods.

Examples include: fruits, vegetables, lentils, beans, oatmeal, and eating the skins of potatoes and carrots.

“Food and drink such as cheese and milk may reduce the risk of colon cancer,” Cancer Research UK found.

You also need to cut down on processed and red meat, such as:

  • chicken nuggets

  • Sugary drinks
